Could you please translate the occupation on a Hiski Marriage record. It shows Piika for the wife which means young unmarried girl. Translated that says wench. The husband I am assuming is a crofter (as is 99% of my ancestors) but the word used is renkimies which translated says Slave Man. I have not seen that wording before but if he was a tennant farmer I guess he would be a slave man. Can I assume he was a farmer?
Thank You
Janice
Anders Kahkonen 1881 marriage
Re: Anders Kahkonen 1881 marriage
Renki is a hired hand that worked on the farm. Piika might be either an unmarried young girl as you suggested (usually in the marriage lists), or she might have been a maid.

Thank you, Jani, for the translation. I had to chuckle at Slave Man, I did not expect to see that as an occupation.
Have a nice weekend.
