Hi taltta,

The marriage record, here in Canada, for Aune Rosa's second marriage states that her parents were:

Nikolai Valiharju of Teuva Finland
Sanna Luoma of Teuva Finland

There is a Teuva connection, and perhaps that is where Aune was born.

I have posted a lookup request with Rootsweb, in hopes that someone will find the immigration record and send it to me.

Aune may have come to Canada in 1929, her first marriage was probably later than that, as her only child was born in 1933, in Canada.

I looked at the page at http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=21619418, and I wonder if it is possible to find a translation to English, of the column headings. It is so difficult to figure out what I am looking at, which are names of people, or places, etc.

Hello taltta,

A kind soul sent me a copy of the immigration record that you identified, here is the transcribed information:

92 80285 Valiharju, Aune 24(age) 1(female) Finland(Country of Origin) Cobalt(Destination)

Sailed 6 Juni 1929 to Halifax, N.S. on m.s. "Gripsholm", so your guess as to Aune's year of birth being 1905 would be correct!

Thank you again taltta!

An unknown Sanna Luoma (b.1880) found on row 9.
Father Sameli Luoma (b.36), mother Klaara (b.51)
I was hoping to find a Nikolai (/Nikolaus/Niklas) and Sanna together.
This Sanna did not (-1905) have a brother either. (4 sisters)

Hi, you may also want to browse the 1910 book on Teuva.

http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=21625882
I can see Sanna Luoma's (b.1880) parents and sisters but no sign of her.

Just supposing that she is the right Sanna, there were many babies born in Teuva between 1875 and 1882 (most likely year range) by the name Nikolai/Nikolaus/Niklas, one of whom might have been Sanna's future husband. Nikolai's surname Väliharju probably came from place he (was born in - but I doubt it-/) worked at some point. Or the name was invented somehow later on (perhaps not).

TWO BIG question marks: when and where did he get the name Väliharju?
Anybody?

BRs, taltta

Parish records of Teuva for 1901-1914 just got published online an hour ago. Born 1905-10-29 and baptized 1905-11-05 was Aune Roosa, the daughter of Nikodemus Wäliharju and Susanna Sofia née Luoma. This seems to be a great match with the names in the marriage record. (http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/sivut/j ... 0&pnum=134)

In the communion book, Nikodemus is reported as being born in Kauhajoki on 1874-12-02. Susanna was born in Teuva on 1880-09-27. Tracing her back, she is the same person as the Sanna whom taltta found in the henkikirja for 1905; that book was dated February. Susanna had had an out-of-wedlock daughter Milma Emiilia on 1903-12-27, and Milma died on 1904-03-30. (http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/sivut/j ... 7&pnum=181)

Nikodemus and Susanna were married on 1905-06-25. Nikolai was entered to the Teuva communion book on 1905-12-19 (this just indicates when the paperwork of moving from Kauhajoki to Teuva was handled). The family lived in the Heikkuri farm in the hamlet of Kauppila. Nikodemus' title is itsellinen, which could be roughly interpreted as “untrained laborer without a fixed-term employment contract”. On 1906-03-06 the family of three moved to the city of Kristiinankaupunki (Kristiinankaupungin kaupunki, cf. City of Jersey City). (http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/sivut/j ... 6&pnum=436)
